September 14

Well we did it! On Saturday we walked 25km in the Shopper's DrugMart OneWalk to End All Cancers. It started out a cold, rainy morning - we were wet before we even started, but that didn't dampen our spirits.
The before

We started walking around 8:30 and by the 4th kilometre the rain had stopped. It was still chilly but perfect weather for walking. There was over 4500 walkers and together we raised 7.5 million dollars for cancer research!

5km down!

Along the way they had a wall where we wrote who we were walking for

Halfway and still smiling!

Coming into kilometre 19

An amazing lady and a friend of our friend made these lion tails to add to our ensemble. Just as a side note to explain - Evelyn has had her trusty Lion alongside her throughout treatment and coincidently we have always called her our little lion for the strength she's always shown through every obstacle. We have deemed ourselves Evelyn's 'pride', she being our lioness or leader of the pack :).

Almost there!

Knowing our family and friends were at the finish line gave us the final push to finish - we crossed 7 hours later with tears in our eyes and Evelyn in our arms.

Crossing the finish line!!

It was amazing to hear other people's stories and reasons for walking as well as sharing our own story. It was an awesome event to be a part of and though our legs and feet were sore and tired it felt like a small feat compared to the journey of treatment that thousands of others, including Evelyn have had to go through. Cancer is hard, walking 25km - a piece of cake.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's suffering, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too."
